Next year, the ever growing in popularity UK Games Expo will be playing host to the 2017 Pokémon Regional Championships between June 3rd and June 4th.
Like a lot of organised play formats, the Regionals are official tournaments, though, for the Pokémon TCG, the prizes range from prize money through to scholarships or travel certificates based on the number of participants and the age of the winners.
There are 1000 seats available for competitors in three brackets: masters, senior and junior. If you’re over 18, finishing in first or second place will give you the choice of a scholarship or cash. For those under 18, placing first or second will net you a scholarship or a travel certificate.
The prize money itself depends on the number of participants – with over 500 competitors, first place prize can reach £5000. Each participant will receive a promo card and three Play! points just for taking part.
To enter, it costs £35 for masters and £20 to enter the junior and senior brackets, plus the cost of the entry to UK Games Expo.
UK Games Expo is the largest tabletop gaming expo in the UK and is held at the Birmingham NEC and has grown larger to expand into the NEC itself as well as the NEC Hilton Hotel where it was held when I had the opportunity to attend in 2014.
